MSA’s LUNAR Connected Device, a search and rescue device for firefighters, is now available for use on FirstNet®.
What is FirstNet?
FirstNet is the only nationwide communications platform built with and for first responders and those who support their vital mission. It provides highly secure and prioritized network access. In 2017, AT&T entered a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority to build and maintain the nation’s first public safety network.
How does FirstNet help firefighters with emergency communications?
MSA is collaborating with FirstNet, built with AT&T, to develop LUNAR Connected Devices that are available for use on FirstNet. First responders on FirstNet, including firefighters with LUNAR devices that are available for use on FirstNet, get access to prioritized connectivity, never competing with commercial traffic. Plus, first responders have preemption capabilities. This means that AT&T can clear Band 14 spectrum just for firefighters on FirstNet when they need it by detouring others off the network.
Other benefits include:
- Elevated network status during an incident
- Advanced and augmented coverage in both urban and rural locations
- Highly secure network
- Improved communication through interoperability
- Ensured communication with no data throttling
The LUNAR Connected Device, which is now available for use on FirstNet, offers firefighter accountability, situational awareness through personal thermal imaging, F.A.S.T. for search and rescue – and access to prioritized communications on FirstNet.
Applies to LUNAR devices manufactured and shipped as of May 2023.
