How Can Fire Departments Provide Faster, Easier Thermal Imaging For More Firefighters?

2 Min Read | Aug 24, 2026

Reading Time: 2 minutesThermal imaging cameras are valuable tools for helping firefighters navigate smoke-filled environments, identify heat sources, and improve situational awareness. By integrating thermal imaging directly into the MSA G1 SCBA, the MSA G1 iTIC helps make this critical technology more accessible while reducing the need to carry additional equipment.

Thermal imaging cameras (TICs) help firefighters see through smoke, identify heat sources, locate victims, and improve situational awareness in low-visibility environments.

An integrated thermal imaging solution helps address everyday fireground challenges, such as not every firefighter having a camera and firefighters having to carry another piece of equipment. This approach helps simplify operation, reduces the amount of equipment firefighters need to manage, and makes thermal imaging accessible to more members of the crew.

The MSA G1 iTIC integrates thermal imaging directly into the MSA G1 SCBA, helping firefighters quickly access thermal imaging while keeping their focus on the task at hand.

Key benefits include:

  • Simple operation. The camera powers on automatically with the SCBA and uses a single-button interface on the control module for intuitive operation.
  • Lightweight and small design. Adds only 1.25 inches and 4.2 oz. compared to a standard MSA G1 SCBA control module.
  • Outstanding image quality. Standard 220 × 176 color resolution delivers detailed image quality to help identify heat signatures.
  • Smooth rendering. A 30 Hz refresh rate minimizes screen freezing for smooth image rendering.
  • Natural point-and-view functionality. The design makes it easy for firefighters to understand where the camera is aimed and what they are viewing.
  • One integrated power source. The camera is powered by the G1 SCBA battery, eliminating the need to manage a separate power source.
  • Configurable for department preferences. Departments can easily customize camera settings and choose from more than 20 color palettes using MSA A2 Software, with five selectable at any time.
  • Long-term durability. Includes a five-year thermal imager warranty, extendable to 15 years to align with the G1 SCBA.

The MSA G1 SCBA iTIC is NFPA 1970-2025 compliant and compatible with all fielded G1 SCBAs via a simple field upgrade or can be ordered as an installed accessory on new G1 SCBAs.
