When released, the new NFPA 1970, Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural and Proximity Firefighting, Work Apparel, Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for Emergency Services, and Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS), will consolidate and incorporate changes to four current standards. Those standards are: NFPA 1971, NFPA 1975, NFPA 1981, and NFPA 1982.
While the new standard is still in development, it will include significant changes to NFPA 1971 and NFPA 1981 that will affect product offerings. Understanding those proposed changes now will help your department determine turnout gear and equipment priorities.
Our white paper “What You Need to Know Now about the NFPA 1970 Consolidations” covers the following topics:
- The new consolidated structural firefighting PPE standard: organization and consequences
- Proposed revisions to NFPA 1971, Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting: overview and key changes
- Proposed revisions to NFPA 1981, Standard on Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for Emergency Services: overview and key changes
It is also important that fire departments look at the NFPA 1970 standard once it is issued to become familiar with the new requirements. This is especially true since additional changes could still be made leading up to its promulgation.
